The Steve Keene Trevor Reese Project

Opening Friday, September 7th 7-11pm
through September 29th.
curated by Annette Monnier
Steve Keene is one of the most successful artists in the world, having sold over 200,000 paintings. Every weekday he turns out 60-80 paintings, often of the same thing over and over again. Subjects range from pizza to record album covers to reproductions of Rembrandt's "Aristotle Contemplating the Bust of Homer" and prices hardly ever go over $20. Each painting is laid out on cheap ply-wood and coated in primary colors, the effect is more aptly described as "awesome" with an emphasis on the awe than "beautiful". Steve once told the New York Times "I'm like a baker. You don't make the bagels different every day. You try to make them exactly alike."
"The Steve Keene Trevor Reese Project" is a collaboration between Steve and his studio assistant Trevor Hunter Reese. This will be the first time the New York artist has exhibited in Philadelphia since his show at The Moore Galleries in 1997.
